Heirloom Seeds: Our Garden Legacy 5

Heirloom seeds, or survival seeds, as they're commonly called, are a key part of our heritage and perhaps of our future well-being. The reason for believing this is that the giant seed suppliers only desire to generate one particular assortment of fruit and vegetables from each vegetable strain because it's simply a profit decision to them.

Relying on only one strain of tomatoes, as an example, might lead to a sizable challenge if there were an insect or blight which abruptly infected that particular strain of tomato. This would have the ability to destroy the entire tomato harvest in a fell swoop. Being dependent on just one single variety of any fruit or vegetable is what caused the Irish Potato Famine during the 19th century and we sure don't want to replicate that.

In the long run, it's the simple mom and pop storehouses of all these diverse heirloom seeds which will make the difference if we ever have another potential catastrophe like that due to the fact many of these variations aren't going to be vulnerable to the blight or insect that the other kinds are and therefore, we can start sowing another strain of tomato, pepper, squash or whatever different fruit and vegetables were impacted.

We should learn from history, thatt we should maintain our garden heritage with as many countless types of heirloom seeds as we can save.
